Free Beauty Products Review

As promised, today I’m sharing my reviews on the free beauty products I received from product testing websites!

I had so much fun trying to creatively take pictures of the products, swatches, and wear tests! Not saying I’m good at it by any means, but hopefully you’ll bare with me as I learn this whole blogging thing!

Here are 5 makeup products and my honest thoughts on them..

YSL Touche Eclat Blur Primer

So this is a very expensive primer, one that I would probably not purchase on my own (cause I’m cheap). However I will say that it does what it claims to do. It blurs out all of the uneven skin tone, redness, pores, and acne.

Left: Baby Skin Primer Right: Touche Eclat Primer

In the picture above, I compared the Touche Eclat (right) to the Maybelline Baby Skin primer (left.) The YSL primer has little flecks of gold in it. Which is suppose to help illuminate and radiate the foundation. I personally don’t see a difference with the gold specks. But the texture is so incredibly soft, even more so than the Baby Soft Primer. It literally makes my face feel like a velvet cloud of softness.

It also claims to be suitable for all skin tones and types, even sensitive. Which I can agree with, my face is sensitive and it has never irritated my skin at all.

I’ve had this primer for a while, and I’ve saved it specifically for special occasions. Just because of how little product there actually is in the tube, but also because of the expensiveness and I know it’s going to do an amazing job.

YSL Touche Eclat Blur Perfector

Obviously this goes in line with the Touche Eclat series. This comes in a pink, thick balm consistency. Its suppose to do all the things that the primer does, but also acts like an invisible blurring foundation. While I will agree it does blur the skin, I wouldn’t compare the coverage to a foundation.

The Blur perfector also claims to be used as a finishing touch after all makeup is applied, or can provide a mattifying touch-up. I have tried applying this after my makeup routine, and it was a mess. It made my makeup look blotchy and thick. But I do have dry skin, not oily.

Honestly, I have not reached for this since getting it and playing around with it for a week or so. If you have oily skin, it would probably work well for you. But for me, I’m not a fan.

Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer

I was super excited when I got a Kat Von D concealer. At that time, her lock it foundation, concealer, and shade and light palette were all the rage. I did try the Lock-It foundation because of the super high coverage and I absolutely hated it! It was so thick and cakey, it just didn’t work for me. This concealer is pretty much the same. Very thick, but very high coverage.

Left: Kat Von D Middle: Tarte Shape Tape Right: Instant Age Rewind

You can just tell from the picture how thick and full coverage the concealer is. Definitely higher coverage then the Tarte Shape Tape. (Which I also hate!) If you have dry skin, especially on the under eye, I wouldn’t recommend this concealer. It so drying and cakey looking, which is the worst look.

The Maybelline Instant Age Rewind concealer (right) is the one I’m currently using and loving. It has great coverage and is not super drying. Not to mention it’s a heck of a lot cheaper!

Kat Von D Lock-It Translucent Setting Powder

This is the translucent form, not any added coverage type of setting powder. It says it’s suppose to hide pores, and mattify. I don’t think it hides your pores, and I have many of them! But it does mattify, which is why I don’t use it on the under eye. The only thing I do use it for is to clean up my contour line. And because the powder is super white, it does an amazing job for that alone.

For demonstration purposes, I did use a little powder under the eye. But you can see how well it looks under the contour. If you have dry skin, I wouldn’t recommend using this all over your face. But for oily, it will do a great job mattifying.

Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Mascara

This mascara is by far the best I’ve ever tried! It does all the things it claims to, which I find is rare in the beauty industry. It gives my lashes fullness, volume, and a velvety look. So many mascaras out there swear to give you the look of false lashes, and this one definitely comes close!

I compared a swatch of Velvet Noir (right) to the Loreal Voluminous mascara (left). I think from the picture you can see the velvety like texture. Even with the price, I would definitely repurchase, because I think it’s worth the cost!

This is the final look with all the products shown. The left side of my face I used all the products I just discussed. And the right side I used all drugstore products. The biggest difference I notice first hand is the mascara. Also the under eye on the left side you can tell is a bit more dry looking and not as smooth compared to the right. Under the contour line where I used the Kat Von D concealer and translucent powder, is much lighter. Compared to the right, where I used Maybelline Instant Age Rewind and Rimmel Stay Matte powder.

Honestly, in person the only noticeable different is the left side looking brighter and lighter. Is that worth all that extra money? I’m so cheap when it comes to anything. There are only 2 high end products that I have repurchased over and over again. (Which I plan to talk about in my holy grail products post!)

I’d also like to add that everyone’s skin is different. So what may or may not work for me personally, might be the opposite for you.

Anyway, (enough rambling) I hope this was useful and entertaining. If you have any thoughts or comments, I’d love to hear from you!

Thanks for reading!

Free Products For Reviews

Do you love getting free products in the mail? I know I do!

I’m going to share with you all the sites I use to receive free products by mail in exchange for reviews. All these sites are free to join, and all they ask is to do a quick task after receiving the product. Most of the time they ask for a quick survey on the product, a review on the products website, or to post a review on a social media page. It really only takes a minute or two of your time in exchange for free products! I have tried many product review sites over the years and these are my favorites that actually work.

The first website I personally use is Influenster. On Influenster you create a profile, answer some questions about your lifestyle and you can connect your social media accounts or even a blog. The more followers you have the better chance of getting chosen for products. But even without connecting all of those you can still get some pretty great stuff, just not as often.

These are some of the makeup products I received through the mail! They are some pretty high end products! And again, they were all FREE. Check it out here:

Crowdtap in another free site where you can answer questions, share your opinions, and earn rewards and free product samples. Again you can create your own profile and connect social media. You can also earn points everyday and exchange them for gift cards. Some of the things I got from Crowdtap were Micellar water and O.B tampons, which I have already used up! Check out Crowdtap here:

Smiley360 is a lot similar to Crowdtap, the more social media you connect, the more chances you have of qualifying for free products. You get to take surveys, complete missions, and receive points and badges. They work with all kinds of brands, from food to beauty to cleaning products! Click here to check out Smiley:

This is another great site for getting free products for reviews. On BzzAgent you receive campaigns for specific products that they will send you. Afterwards, the campaign ask you to post review to social media, product reviews on websites, or complete a survey. This is a site where you don’t have to login and check everyday. If you get any campaigns, they will notify you by email. Check out BzzAgent:

L’Oreal USA Consumer Testing

This site is directly through L’Oreal. Again with the others, you sign up for free and answer beauty related questions. I will say that I have not had many testing opportunities that I qualified for unlike the other places I’ve mentioned. However, I did get to test a product that was in the making before it even launched and hit the shelf! All the requirements are to answer a survey on the product, that’s all!

Pictured are a few products I received from L’Oreal! Check it out here:

The last thing I have to mention is not a product testing website, however it is a survey app that I use to get free products from Amazon. If you have an android device you get redeem for Amazon gift cards. BUT if you have an apple device, they redeem for iTunes gift cards.

Its super easy to use, you just complete surveys for $2 or .40 cents depending on the survey. If you don’t qualify for the survey based on the criteria they are looking for, you still get .10 cents! Once your balance adds up to $10, you can redeem a $10 gift card. I use this app everyday and the $10 adds up quick, usually within a day or two. I ordered so many products on Amazon already, obviously mostly makeup!

These are all of the things I have gotten so far, and I have more on the way! Download QuickThoughts here:

If there are any related sites or apps you use for free product testing, please share!

ALSO I will be doing reviews on all of the products I received through these sites and through Amazon, so stay tuned!
